Plate Tectonics Sanity is not unlike plate tectonics.
Does that make sense?
You know, we live on these huge continental plates.
Like really really huge.
Not just kinda huge.
And they're so huge that we forget that they're there.
I mean, what alternative could we be aware of?
They're always there,
Quiet, stable, ancient.
We forget that within that huge,
yet relatively thin earthen crust,
is a giant convection oven of molten hot magma.
It's not like tight-rope walking or anything.
You're in no real danger of falling off the plate.
But every so often,
you feel a slight quake,
or tremor,
or super cool lava-filled volcano,
that reminds you that Plate Tectonics by ~thejademonkey58

The Guardian's Hymn When I first heard of the invasion, I didn’t believe it. Rumors of war weren’t overly uncommon in the more rural parts of the country, where I’m from. The reason for this never made sense to me. Perhaps the townsmen’s lives were so uneventful that they had to make up rumors to keep things interesting. Maybe they knew that even if there was a war, there was no way that the king would rally troops that far away from anything important. Yet here I am. So much for that theory.

If it's possible... I’m not admitting that I know everything about the afterlife. Not by a long shot. But I promise you that, if it’s possible, I’ll wait for you on the other side.

Again, I’m not sure if I’ll be able to. Maybe when I get down to the River Styx, they won’t let me skip rocks upon her surface. Maybe I can’t ask the boatman to wait a little bit longer. But if it’s possible, I’ll do it.

the Life of Princess Elana I am in love with the stars when they seem so much closer. From the tallest tower, they look more like little white pebbles than little white grains of sand. Sometimes I try to jump off to see them better, expecting to hit the misty white moor, but I just flawlessly fall back into my bedroom, into my pajamas, into my bed. The blankets smell like vanilla on those nights, vanilla and doughnuts and yellow roses. She must be making it so, doing it on purpose so I’d never want to leave as long as the scent lingered. I always wondered where she got those candles.

the firstwave- the lastgoodbye He stepped outside and took his first breath, his very first breath in six years. He waved at the sea, and the sea waved back. Was he ever alive before this moment?

It was kind of like coming down from the high point of a fever. He was laying in bed, feeling better than yesterday but worse than he ever had in his whole life. He began to regret missing the bucket; the stench of vomit in the carpet was too much. His teddy bear had just watched it all happen without a word; hopefully he’d clean the mess up later. Or sooner.

Firesong He was born in the epicenter of a California wildfire, his heart of gold melted and poured into a ribcage-shaped mold and left by the firefighters to cool. His eyes were as green as the forest where he was conceived, and his hair was as black as the forest after his delivery. They said his arms and legs were fallen branches with embers trapped inside, so he always was warm to the touch.

He was a charmer in chilly Seattle, the cold waters of the Sound paralyzing his bones but still inevitably pulling him in. His voice would draw crowds like a tourist attraction, and his smile made a friend of anyone who came within three feet of him. They sFiresong by ~imkikyo

Let's jump back a few years to an 8th grade Evan, first signing up for deviantart and nothing short of intrigued by the concept of looking at artwork and having your evaluated in turn.

Then we can jump forward a few months to Evan entirely forgetting about the site's existence because he has the follow-through of a ceramic flowerpot.

Now we can skip forward to a few days ago, when a friend persuaded me to use the site once more (Thanks, Zigzag

). I know more about myself now and should be able to get some serious art done, only to find myself completely and utterly without inspiration.

I've already decided that visual art just isn't my medium. I don't have the patience, dexterity, or talent to make any kind of drawing, and there's still that complete and utter lack of follow-through that would stop me from ever scanning my work on to the site.

Seeing and anticipating this, I decided that writing would be an all-around better medium for myself. I prefer it, actually, and have actually shown some aptitude for it on occasion.

So, today, while home from school on a sick day, I sat down to really get some writing done only to find myself with writer's block.

...what a sick joke.
